The Story of the Queens

The story of the Queens began with the discovery by Countess Orssich of Schlumbergera orssichiana in the early 1970s. This species is closely allied to S. truncata and crosses freely with it. The resulting hybrids were named S. x reginae as Countess Orssich called her first hybrids Queens. 

These hybrids combine the best features of both parents, the flowering period usually starts in October (in the northern hemisphere) and continues for about two months.

The following list shows names that have been registered with the breeders name and date and the colour groups to which they belong (note, colours must be determined above 12°C as a change can take place below that temperature):

 Colour Group 2. (orange red with white or a paler tint on the tube, petals with orange red to grenadine. So. abbreviation for S. orssichiana)
